On July 24th, a worldwide celebration of Self-Care Day took place. Therefore, throughout the week, the Food Security program conducted in Soledad carried out various activities aimed at maintaining good health through nutrition. One of the activities was called “Choose a healthy option for breakfast, snacks, lunch, or dinner.” The children had figures of different types of food to choose from, taking into account the knowledge they have acquired.
World Mangrove Day
Today, on World Mangrove Day, we emphasize the importance of this ecosystem with our boys and girls. We link the significance of nature with emotions and conflict resolution in each participant. We work on empathy, assertive communication, and strengthen mechanisms for civic engagement.
Community Leaders participate in the radio program “Caribe Joven.”
This week, representatives from the project “Community Leaders of Southwest Barranquilla” were invited to the radio program “Caribe Joven,” where they shared their experiences and learning about human rights and civic participation. During the interview, they discussed some social initiatives related to higher education and the importance of mastering a second language for young people to access better job opportunities.
Fostering values
Our children and adolescents experienced a morning of learning, laughter, and fun. Camaraderie and cooperation were the protagonists of this great day, during which tools were provided through play to strengthen their leadership skills, teamwork, and values education.

A day of cooperative learning. Through ludic-pedagogical activities of interaction, the boys, girls, and teenagers from the Mi Ciudad con Vida Foundation shared an exchange of ideas and cooperative experiences that allowed them to achieve collective goals.

What do you eat to take care of your heart?
Throughout this month, the food security project has carried out various activities to promote heart health and well-being, with a focus on nutrition through several initiatives. One of them was “What foods do you consume to take care of your heart?”, which involved an illustrative poster of the heart where children had to select and incorporate recommended foods, such as legumes, vegetables, and nuts.
Young leaders who want to make a significant change.
This Saturday, we welcomed the young people from the “Community Leaders” project in the southwest of Barranquilla. Forty young individuals, including beneficiaries and community members, gathered to learn in a playful manner about what human rights are and their classifications. With this activity, we kickstarted this project that will continue for 10 months and aims to shape a youth that is both leaderly and participative in the community.
Financial Education for Parents in Soledad
From the Psychosocial Support program of Soledad and Heartland Alliance International, through their project “Steps for Integration,” a training on financial education was conducted. The objective was for families to learn basic concepts about personal finances and money management. In total, 23 people were trained.
Organizational Strengthening
This week, officials from the Food Security project received training in partnership with the Barranquilla Archdiocesan Food Bank on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in food, and they obtained their certification from the company Soluciones Gastronómicas la Recetta S.A.S.
