Throughout the month, participants in the Food Security program at the Soledad branch have learned about the importance of consuming fruits and vegetables, recognizing their multiple benefits based on their color. This week, we conducted various association activities to emphasize the importance of consuming red-colored fruits and vegetables, as they contribute to maintaining good cardiovascular health, improving memory, reducing the risk of diseases such as cancer, and protecting the urinary system.
Why should we consume green fruits and vegetables?
During this week, the Food Security program developed in Soledad worked with the beneficiaries on the importance of consuming green fruits and vegetables to increase energy levels, improve sleep quality, maintain good vision, and strengthen the immune system. To address this topic, we used various association strategies, such as lists of well-known fruits and vegetables, image visualization, and songs.
Pedagogical spaces with the Community Police
From the psychosocial support program developed at the Soledad location, pedagogical spaces are being conducted with the Community Police on coexistence and neighborhood unity to prevent crimes, civic conflicts, and behaviors contrary to the law. In addition, parents and representatives of the Community Action Board of the Nuevo Horizonte neighborhood were able to share the issues faced by the community and received emergency response routes.
Let’s learn about the importance of using ICT
From the “Educating at Home” project taking place in Soledad, this week we worked on providing high-quality digital resources to children to enhance their academic performance, and we discussed strategies to promote their safety and integrity. We formed workgroups where each participant could carry out practical exercises from their mobile phones. We utilized the “Colombia Aprende” platform from the Secretary of Education, as well as others such as Educalandia and Duolingo.
Self-Care Week
On July 24th, a worldwide celebration of Self-Care Day took place. Therefore, throughout the week, the Food Security program conducted in Soledad carried out various activities aimed at maintaining good health through nutrition. One of the activities was called “Choose a healthy option for breakfast, snacks, lunch, or dinner.” The children had figures of different types of food to choose from, taking into account the knowledge they have acquired.
What do you eat to take care of your heart?
Throughout this month, the food security project has carried out various activities to promote heart health and well-being, with a focus on nutrition through several initiatives. One of them was “What foods do you consume to take care of your heart?”, which involved an illustrative poster of the heart where children had to select and incorporate recommended foods, such as legumes, vegetables, and nuts.
Financial Education for Parents in Soledad
From the Psychosocial Support program of Soledad and Heartland Alliance International, through their project “Steps for Integration,” a training on financial education was conducted. The objective was for families to learn basic concepts about personal finances and money management. In total, 23 people were trained.
Organizational Strengthening
This week, officials from the Food Security project received training in partnership with the Barranquilla Archdiocesan Food Bank on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in food, and they obtained their certification from the company Soluciones Gastronómicas la Recetta S.A.S.
Nutritional Screening in Soledad
This week, at Soledad Headquarters, we initiated the first nutrition screening as part of the food security project. The main objective was to assess the weight and height of the children participating in the program in order to identify potential nutritional risk situations and carry out timely interventions. This activity was carried out in collaboration with a team of nutritionists sent by the Barranquilla Food Bank, thus strengthening our alliance for the well-being of the children.
Mother’s Day at Soledad Headquarters
In the headquarters of Soledad, we want to pay a heartfelt tribute and recognition to mothers on their day, as an acknowledgment of the beautiful work they do daily with their children. It was an afternoon full of fun with contests, prizes, and a special toast to highlight their virtues, active participation, and commitment to social volunteering. We wanted to emphasize their dedication and unconditional love in an afternoon full of gratitude and celebration.
